The opportunity:

 

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll help find solutions to interesting power system problems as you grow your skills every day. You will make recommendations on the connection or modification of synchronous, non-synchronous generators and new inverter-based loads.

 

You will;

 

  • Lead projects/investigations to model and simulate power system behaviour ensuring network capacity & performance meet standards
  • Assess the impact of renewable energy integration on network performance, limitations, security and development of the network;
  • Make recommendations on the connection of Pumped Hydro and Synchronous Condensers to the network
  • Assess new and modified generating systems and inverter-based load for compliance with NER standards and modelling requirements.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineers and Development Engineers

The people you'll join:

 

Reporting to the Team Leader Renewable Connections, you’ll contribute directly to the Energy Markets & Planning Group, which shapes the long-term vision for Powerlink’s transmission network development. You’ll be part of a collaborative and forward thinking team where your insights will help optimise power system performance and support the integration of renewable energy connections. 

What you'll bring:

 

  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)

 

You’ll bring strong knowledge of power system plant characteristics and the ability to model both plant and system behaviour. Proficiency in computer-based modelling and analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and PowerFactory, is essential. An understanding of the National Electricity Rules (NER), particularly around system standards and generator performance standards (GPS), is highly advantageous.

 

You’ll have excellent communication skills to clearly convey complex concepts, along with proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong critical thinking, independent judgement, and problem-solving abilities will round out your toolkit.
