The opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cultural Heritage Advisor to join the team on a 12-month temporary basis. In this role, you will provide expert advice on cultural heritage management to support the safe and responsible delivery of major infrastructure projects. You will play an important role in helping the business effectively manage heritage risks while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, organisational policies and cultural heritage agreements.
You will guide and support Cultural Heritage Officers and work closely with project teams to ensure cultural heritage considerations are integrated into project planning and delivery. The role also involves working collaboratively with First Nations Peoples, government bodies and key stakeholders to support the protection and respectful management of cultural heritage.
The people you'll join:
Reporting to the Team Leader - Cultural Heritage NQ, you'll be part of a collaborative team committed to responsible cultural heritage management across North Queensland. The team works closely with internal project teams, landholder and community stakeholders, and Traditional Owners to ensure cultural heritage values are respected and protected throughout project delivery. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring Cultural Heritage Officers and contributing to strategies, processes and initiatives that strengthen cultural heritage management across the business.
What you'll bring:
- Degree or equivalent qualification, coupled with relevant experience in archaeology, anthropology, cultural heritage management, or other relevant disciplines.
You will bring strong experience in cultural heritage management, ideally within large infrastructure or project environments, along with a genuine commitment to respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Owners.
You’ll have a solid understanding of Queensland cultural heritage legislation and compliance requirements, and experience providing advice on cultural heritage matters across complex projects. Your ability to interpret legislation, manage heritage risks and support the development of frameworks, procedures and strategies will enable you to contribute to strong cultural heritage outcomes across the business.
You will also bring demonstrated experience building trusted relationships with Traditional Owners, government bodies and key stakeholders. Strong communication skills, including report writing and presentations, will support your ability to provide clear advice and collaborate effectively across teams.
