The opportunity:
As a Network Access Specialist, your main responsibility is to provide technical support for accessing Powerlink Networks, including Transmission Primary, Secondary, and Telecommunication Networks. You'll prepare, check, and authorise switching sheets, coordinate projects, and develop training and documentation. Your goal is to ensure safe access to or work near Powerlink Networks, adhering to timeframes, budgets, compliance, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will write, check, authorise, and distribute "Switching Sheets" for planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, and project work, ensuring compliance with policies, guidelines, procedures, instructions, and National Electricity Rules.
- You will validate customer Switching Sheets to ensure adherence to Powerlink, NER, and stakeholder requirements during planned outages.
- You will provide technical support for Network Access by updating policies and procedures, coordinating projects, and maintaining relevant data to minimise network downtime and ensure 24x7 operation of the Powerlink Transmission Network.
- You will monitor and maintain the HV Index to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, Engineering Quality Assurance policies and procedures, Circuitry Standards, and Powerlink Engineering Standards.
- You will liaise with other Powerlink groups, operators, generators, customers, and maintenance service providers to consider their interests in matters where HV transmission outages impact their areas of jurisdiction, assets, workplace resources, supply quantity and reliability, and production levels.
- You will participate in the development of operational staff training and outage documentation to ensure continuous improvement of practices and procedures.
- You will engage in staff development programs to maintain and update your skills and competencies.
It's an exciting time to join as we connect more renewables to the network and introduce new technology, including a new Advanced Energy Management System and outage management system. These advancements will significantly improve Powerlink's operations and address the complexities of integrating more renewables.
The people you'll join:
Based in Brisbane, you'll report to the Power System Operations Team Leader and become part of an established team. This team includes System Controllers, Senior Network Access Specialists, and a Network Access Data Steward, all dedicated to ensuring safe and timely access to Powerlink's network.
What you'll bring:
- Advanced Diploma (AQF6) in Electrical Engineering or, a lesser electrical qualification coupled with significant experience in HV transmission network environments
We’d also love you to have:
- High Voltage accreditations such as Outage Coordinator, Switching Sheet (Operating Instructions) Writer/Checker and/or Field Switching and Access roles
- Knowledge of Safe Access to High Voltage Electrical Apparatus for the purpose of preparing, writing, checking and authorising network access works packages.
- Understanding of National Electricity Rules, the Electricity Act and Regulations, and other relevant legislation.
- Proven experience working with transmission networks, its elements and protection schemes.
- Demonstrated ability to take action to meet deadlines and changes in priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide solutions to complex technical HV access challenges with a quality focus, whilst applying careful attention to detail to ensure conformance, safety, and optimisation of network access services.
