The opportunity:

 

As Head of Legal, you will lead specialist legal teams to deliver commercially astute and strategically aligned legal services across the enterprise. Operating within a complex and evolving regulatory environment, you will set the direction for the legal functionensuring the organisation is supported by clear, pragmatic advice that appropriately balances legal risk with broader commercial, operational and strategic priorities. 

 

A key focus of the role will be the continued evolution of the legal service model. You will strengthen governance frameworks, refine operating practices, and continue fostering partnerships to enhance the quality, efficiency and value of legal services. This includes oversight and management of external legal providers, ensuring consistent access to specialised expertise and strong commercial outcomes. 

 

You will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s approach to legal risk and compliance, with accountability for the oversight of litigation, regulatory obligations and emerging legal developments. As a trusted advisor, you will work closely with senior leaders across the business and provide considered, independent advice to the Executive and Board on legal risk, compliance and governance matters. 

 

In addition, you will uplift legal capability across the organisation by fostering greater awareness and understanding of legal risk. Through targeted engagement and education, you will support more informed, confident and risk-aware decision-making at all levels. 

 

The people you'll join:

 

Reporting to the General Manager Governance, you will be a key member of the Governance group leadership team, contributing to enterprise-wide governance, risk and assurance outcomes. 

You will lead a specialised Legal Services function and continue to embed a mature, business-partnering modelworking alongside leaders across the organisation to support major infrastructure initiatives, navigate complex legal challenges and enable strategic priorities. 

 

You will join a leadership environment grounded in trust, collaboration and continuous improvement, where there is a clear expectation and genuine opportunity for leaders to influence, uplift capability and deliver meaningful, enterprise-wide impact. 

What you'll bring:

 

You are an accomplished legal leader with expansive technical expertise and strong commercial judgement and the ability to influence at the most senior levels of an organisation.

 

You will be admitted as an Australian Legal Practitioner and hold a current Queensland practising certificate, with significant post-admission experience, preferably gained in-house within a large, complex organisation. 

 

Your experience includes leading and developing specialist legal teams, delivering bespoke and commercially focused legal advice in complex environments, and managing significant legal matters across litigation, regulatory compliance and strategic initiatives. You bring sound judgement, resilience and a high level of professional integrity and can confidently operate in dynamic environments with a degree of ambiguity.  

 

Experience within energy, resources, linear infrastructure or construction sectors is highly regarded, as is working knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to the electricity industry. You will also bring experience leading and embedding legal transformation, strengthening compliance frameworks and driving organisational change. 

 

Your leadership style is grounded in empowerment and accountability. You build trusted relationships, develop capability in others, and create clarity in complex environments. You are both strategic and outcomes-focused, with a proven ability to translate strategy into action and deliver sustained impact.
