The opportunity:
As a Design Manager, you’ll lead the coordination and delivery of all technical design activities across Powerlink’s high-voltage network projects. You’ll work across the full project lifecycle—managing internal and external design resources, ensuring design outputs are safe, compliant, on budget and aligned across disciplines including substations, transmission lines, secondary systems, and telecommunications.
This is a central role that sees you collaborating closely with project delivery teams, stakeholders and contractors. You’ll facilitate Safety in Design (SiD) workshops, own and manage design change processes, and act as the key technical design contact throughout project delivery. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement, support strategic design decisions, and mentor others within the design function.

As part of our Design Management team within the Delivery & Technical Solutions Division, you’ll join a collaborative, technically driven group committed to excellence in project delivery. The team is central to Powerlink’s mission—bringing together design specialists and project professionals who share a passion for safe, integrated and forward-thinking design solutions. You’ll be supported by a culture that values knowledge-sharing, continuous improvement and teamwork, all while contributing to major projects that are shaping Queensland’s energy future.
What you'll bring:
With a strong foundation in your technical discipline, you’ll bring a deep understanding of design integration across multidisciplinary teams and thrive in complex project environments. You'll have:
- Degree qualification in Engineering or lesser qualification with extensive knowledge and experience in design of high voltage substations, transmission lines and/or telecommunications technologies
- Strong experience delivering complex design solutions across large infrastructure or energy projects.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams, manage competing priorities, and drive design integration.
- Familiarity with Safety in Design principles, risk management, and relevant technical standards (AS, IEC, IEEE).
- Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Working knowledge of tools and systems such as SAP, MS Project, and document control platforms.
