The opportunity:
In the position of Control Systems Engineer, you will manage the control system design components throughout the project lifecycle, from initial scoping and estimation through to post-commissioning. You’ll work to ensure that all designs are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with Powerlink’s policies, standards, and practices. Safety in design is a priority, and you’ll be expected to consider its application from the start of each project through to decommissioning.
You’ll collaborate closely with Principal Engineers and other stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes across design, projects, and business objectives. Regular progress reports will be a key part of the role, as well as negotiating timeframes based on resource availability. You will be responsible for ensuring the preparation of accurate documentation, adhering to quality management processes, and entering information into Powerlink’s Configuration Management System (CMS) and Drawing Management System (DMS).
In addition to working on internal projects, you’ll also perform an Owners’ Engineer role for outsourced projects, ensuring that the final outcomes meet the required specifications. A key part of your work will involve coordinating with other designers to ensure that control inputs are delivered on time and meet the highest standards of quality. You will also contribute to the improvement of the Secondary Systems Design team.
The people you'll join:
Based in Virginia, you will join our Design Solutions group within the Delivery and Technical Services division, reporting directly to the Team Leader Secondary Systems.
What you'll bring:
The successful candidate will have experience working with various substation control systems, understanding and configuring synchronising schemes, automatic reclosing, remote monitoring, and designing and verifying configurations for HV substation systems.
- You must have a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering and be eligible for Corporate Membership with Engineers Australia.
- A Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) qualification is desirable but not essential.
- You should have a demonstrated ability in electrical engineering, particularly in secondary systems control design, and experience with control systems such as Foxboro RTU 50, SCD5200, Copadata Zenon HMI, SMP Gateways, SEL RTAC controllers or any other control systems and HMIs.
