As a field based role you will have the opportunity to work throughout Queensland testing, commissioning and maintaining our substation infrastructure

Based in the Townsville region, we have positions available for Field Testing Technicians, you'll help find clever solutions to interesting problems as you grow your skills every day. And you'll do it with down-to-earth people who you're proud to work with and get to know. Here's how: 

 

  • Ability to lead field teams effectively and provide mentoring and support to up-and-coming talent within the Protection and Metering team. 
  • Undertake planning and review of secondary systems scopes, including resource planning, and develop work packaged (in collaboration with the Works Control Managers, Section Leaders and Schedulers) to ensure teams proactively and effectively identify and consider all execution requirements.  
  • You enjoy continual learning, working in a supportive and collaborative team environment, are highly accountable, take pride in providing a quality service and have a keen interest in working on technologically advanced systems. 
  • Bring your advanced experience and knowledge of performing maintenance, repairs, testing and commissioning of Protection and Metering secondary systems and associated equipment, that interfaces with Primary Plant, in high voltage substations. 
  • Your ability to use automated and microprocessor controlled test instruments for use on Protection and Metering equipment that interfaces with protection systems. 
  • Analyse and fault find on complex electrical circuitry and schemes, perform HV switching, secondary isolations, and prepare technical reports. 
     

The community you will join:

As a Field Test Protection Technician Townsville, you will be joining a supportive and collaborative team, working on exciting projects with cutting edge technology. Within the Secondary Systems team, your role will involve working throughout the state of Queensland, operating, maintaining and upgrading our transmission network. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of cutting-edge protection systems and primary plant infrastructure in a high voltage substation environment. The role involves installing, testing, commissioning and fault finding complex electrical, logical and HV systems.

Your expertise:

 

Essential:

  • An Electrical Trade Certificate with a QLD electrical licence or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement
  • An Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • A current ‘C' Class drivers licence
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyse and fault find on complex electrical circuitry and schemes
  • Demonstrated high quality communication skills in a technical environment
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports and work procedures

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of Protection and Metering systems testing in a field environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of High voltage primary plant, and high voltage Protection and Metering systems
  • High voltage switching experience


 If you do not already hold an Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma in a related Electrical Engineering field, it is expected that you have significant progress towards one and continue to undertake studies to achieve or be willing to obtain. Powerlink will support you toward achieving this!
