The opportunity:

 

As a Simulation Author you will play a crucial role in enhancing the Queensland Power system's digital presence and operational efficiency. You will develop, validate, and maintain simulation models that support real-time operational staff and ensure the safe exercise of critical processes in a simulated control room environment.

 

  • Develop and maintain detailed simulation models and exercises for the Queensland power system
  • Utilise real-time simulation and modelling tools, including Energy Management Systems, to deliver training and resilience activities
  • Collaborate with operational and engineering teams to gather requirements and validate simulation results
  • Interpret and communicate simulation results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ensure models are accurate, reliable, and compliant with industry standards
  • Identify potential issues through simulations and provide recommendations for improvement

Reporting directly to the GM of Strategic Network Operations, you will be part of a transformative initiative that will shape the future of energy network management. Powerlink is embarking on the delivery of our new Advanced Energy Management System -  this project will lay the foundations for Powerlink to become the renewable grid of the future.

What you'll bring:

 

  • Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering or lesser qualification with relevant equivalent experience

 

We are seeking a candidate with excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical abilities which are essential for interpreting simulation results, identifying trends, and troubleshooting technical issues.

 

A solid understanding of electrical systems, power generation, and distribution principles is necessary, along with effective problem-solving skills to address technical challenges and optimise energy system performance through simulation-based insights.

 

Proficiency in simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, PSS/E, PSCAD, HOMER, etc., and experience in modelling energy systems, including renewable energy integration, grid infrastructure, and energy storage, are highly desirable.
