With a view to further develop an engaged, innovative and sustainable business, we are now seeking an experienced General Manager, Business Development to join our Network and Business Development senior leadership team. This role will lead the Project Development, Market Development, Customer Relations and Access and Regulation teams, enabling 25 GW of renewable generation and electrification load to be connected by 2035.

As the General Manager Business Development, you will lead and manage the Project Development, Market Development, Customer Relations and Access and Regulation teams, and develop and implement strategies that unlock organisational objectives to enable generator and load connections in Queensland. 


Reporting directly to the Executive GM Network and Business Development (NBD), this role carries out critical responsibilities that are pivotal to Powerlink’s success. 


Specifically you will:

 

  • Lead culture improvement activities across diverse teams to deliver a constructive culture, encouraging the embedding of constructive behaviours in all employees.
  • Develop approved business development strategies and implementation plans, based on a firm understanding of the complex landscape and knowledge of market opportunities 
  • Establish and lead strong and positive stakeholder interactions, to build and maintain strong relationships, with potential, new and existing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage Powerlink’s risk, ensuring appropriate financial returns on non-regulated investments.
  • Direct and oversee the development and approval of bids and proposals for non-regulated opportunities that are aligned with Powerlink’s strategic direction and objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams to drive outcomes aligned to customer expectations demonstrating inclusive and inspirational leadership through ambiguity and complexity.
  • Strategic analysis and monitoring of the external environment in Australia’s energy markets, proactively identifying emerging opportunities and informs decision making.

An integral member of the NBD leadership team, you will support the Executive GM NBD in achieving the division’s direction through the delivery of strategic priorities. 
 

Your expertise

Professional tertiary qualifications in Management, Business, Engineering or a related discipline will be complemented by your high level of personal drive, resilience, and commitment to deliver. You will have significant experience in leading large diverse teams in complex, matrix organisations.  

With proven capability to lead within a diverse and multidisciplinary workforce, you will demonstrate proven expertise in delivering strategic, business development objectives within the energy sector. With strong commercial acumen, you will additionally have proven track record in the connection of generation projects and in identifying new opportunities and delivering results.

You will enjoy collaborating closely with senior leadership to align workforce planning with future divisional needs.  Your dedication to fostering a culture of development and growth will be evident as you strive to enhance employee engagement, capability, and ultimately, cultivate a high-performance culture.

You are open and adept at working at both a strategic and operational level, with the ability to translate business strategy into operational plans, ensuring that planning demonstrates measurable, cost-effective delivery of key outcomes and clear alignment to strategic goals. Familiarity with relevant legislation such as the National Electricity Rules.
