Expression of Interest - Multiple Permanent HV Field Based Positions

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking experienced, qualified and interested people in the following streams of work:

Stream 1: Engineering Officers

Our Engineering Officers provide maintenance, testing, commissioning diagnostic and investigative services, as well as repairs of complex HV secondary systems and equipment. We have teams across Protection, Metering, Communications and Control.

What is required for these roles?

  • Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence (UEE30811)
  • Restricted Level 1 Electrical licence qualification (for Comms and Control roles only)
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (or approaching completion of such)
  • “C” Class Driver’s License

Stream 2: Substation Trade Technicians

Our substation trade technicians perform critical maintenance, repair, operation and construction works on high voltage substation plant and associated equipment up to 330 kV.

What is required for these roles?

  • Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence (UEE30811)
  • “C” & “HR” Class Driver’s License
  • High Risk Work Licence – EWP, Forklift, CN crane e.g. Manitou Operation (or ability to acquire)

Stream 3: Transmission Linespersons

Our transmission lines staff complete maintenance, refurbishment, capital project and emergency repair work on our overhead Transmission Lines up to 330kV. 

What is required for these roles?

  • Electrical Work Licence issued by the Queensland Electrical Safety Office to perform work as a Transmission Linesperson (or another Australian state or Territory or New Zealand licence that is eligible for mutual recognition)
  • Manual “C” & “HR” Class Driver’s License
  • Dogging and Advanced Rigging Certificate (or ability to acquire)

The following are also required for all roles:

  • Current CPR + LVR certifications (or ability to acquire)
  • Working knowledge of Electricity Act & Regulations, Workplace Health & Safety Act and Regulations, and other relevant statutory acts & regulations.
  • The ability to perform manual tasks, and work at heights in an outdoor environment.

What training will you receive?

To work on Queensland’s high voltage network all new employees without relevant high voltage experience will undertake on the job training to acquire the necessary skills and licences. 

Whilst we are primarily looking for people with a high skills and experience match, our structured learning and training programs provide opportunities for people with closely related experience too. Our learning programs, that include technical and corporate modules, will be matched to suit your experience and skills and can be achieved over a reasonable period of time. All role specific training is fully supported and linked to career progression and development.

What does work life balance look like at Powerlink?

Depending on the team you join, we offer various 24/7 rosters and overtime options.   You will be expected to perform some overtime, and participate in an on call roster on a rotating basis and be able to work away from home. But we want you to have the best of both worlds, and so will try to offer travel schedules that suit your individual circumstances and life commitments.
