The opportunity:

 

As the Substation Section Leader based in Townsville, you will lead and support a team of field-based substation specialists delivering maintenance, repairs, operations, construction and testing of high voltage substation plant and associated equipment up to 330 kV. This is a practical leadership role where you will stay close to the work, combining strong technical knowledge with people leadership to achieve safe, reliable and efficient outcomes. You will work alongside a down‑to‑earth team who take pride in what they do and the contribution they make every day.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead and supervise substation field staff to safely deliver maintenance, repair, construction, testing and operational activities in line with standards and procedures
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on complex substation plant and equipment to support safe and effective work delivery
  • Support and monitor team performance, safety and work quality, addressing issues early and building capability across the team
  • Plan and oversee work activities to meet agreed timeframes, budgets and operational priorities
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to support effective scheduling, resourcing and continuous improvement of work practices

The people you'll join:

 

Based in Townsville reporting to the Manager Transmission Substation Delivery, you be a part of our Field and Asset Managment team, working within the field-based delivery team and work to provide maintenance, repair and operate high voltage substation plant.

What you'll bring:

 

  • Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineer or a lesser qualification with experience in High-Voltage substations
  • Qld Electrical Fitter / Mechanic licence
  • A current ‘C' Class drivers' licence

 

The demonstrated ability to maintain, construct and operate substation equipment rated up to 330kV. A background in safely maintaining, constructing and operation of High Voltage electrical substation equipment with a Transmission, Distribution or large-scale Contractor organisation.

 

You will have demonstrated experience leading work teams and providing on‑the‑job technical advice and direction. This includes the ability to deliver technical training, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and build capability within the team through practical guidance and support. You are comfortable travelling when required to remote substations across Queensland and enjoy working with a team. You will value collaboration and variety in your work, contributing positively to team outcomes and the safe delivery of works.
